'Don't Stand By, Step In' equips adults and young people aged 13+ with the knowledge and skills to recognise harmful behaviour and take positive action as an active bystander.
Workshop and promotional materials
The workshop comes with slides and a facilitator plan, as well as marketing materials to promote the core idea, helping to embed bystander intervention into local practice.
A couple of days after doing the training I saw a woman being harassed so I said to the guy, ‘Mate, can you tell me what time the next bus is?’ and my girlfriend checked with the woman to see if she was OK.’

Don’t Stand By, Step In workshop
The 'Don't Stand By, Step In' workshop equips adults and young people aged 13+ with the knowledge and skills to recognise harmful behaviour and take positive action as an active bystander.
Through discussion and interactive activities, participants learn three practical ways to safely intervene. Sessions run 30–45 minutes and can be delivered across youth and community settings, as well as businesses and VCS organisations.

Three ways to Step In – at your fingertips. This foldable memory card provides a reminder about your training as well as a handy reference guide that fits into your wallet. The card describes the three ways to stepping in safely – distract him, support her and get help, while the QR code links to advice on reporting harassment.

This stylish Step In pin badge is a great way to build awareness and start conversations. It’s a pleasing reward for workshop participants, too.

Our poster clearly outlines the three steps to being an active bystander front of mind: distract him, support her, get help. A print and a digital version are available, ready to be displayed in community hubs, schools and council spaces.
